Ayreon is a project by Dutch composer and musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen.

Ayreon's musical style derives mostly from heavy metal and progressive rock, but combines them with genres like folk, classical and electronica to form what some call a completely new style of music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" due to the fact that the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, each represented by a unique vocalist. 2:50 - 2:57 That that moment I imagine the main character reaching out his arm for the stars only to drop it in apathy just as the synths hit. I've got this whole music video in my head that I wish i could make reality.

Johan's vocals just sound so cold that it feels like he's cried out every tear, screamed every word and smiled every happiness he has left. Like he can't even bring himself to be upset anyone, which is why he forgives his father and leaves.

I'm probably overanalysing.
