Kwame Nkrumah Motorway (T/Quarshie Circle to Achimota) - Accra, Ghana

This clip shows the section of the Kwame Nkrumah Motorway between Tetteh Quarshie Circle (north-eastern Accra) to heading towards Mallam Junction (north-western Accra). The clip is specifically from Dworzulu (just after passing TQ Circle, passing Fiesta Royale Hotel & West Airport Broadway intersection, and continuing west. The clip ends as the taxi headed over the Achimota Interchange overfly.

"Motorway" is probably an optimistic way of describing this section of the KN Motorway, as unlike the tollway from TQ Circlie to Tema, this section is a single-laned, overused road, but it is due to be redeveloped into the awesomely-named George W. Bush Motorway within the next five years, which is reported to be designed for three lanes in either direction.

Note that on this particular day, traffic is amazingly light - normally to cover the 14km between TQ Circle to Mallam Junction on this section of road takes 45 minutes on a good day !

Hi,

If you were to look at either the Shell or Toyota City Maps of Accra, you would see that the Kwame Nkrumah Motorway runs from Tema to Mallam Junction, although Ghanaians refer to the Tema to TQ section as "The Motorway"......This is from Dzorwulu to Achimota Interchange, and I passed Fiesta Royale Hotel (see the sign in shot). The intersection I stop at is West Airport Broadway, I filmed it in a cab heading from TQ Circle to Dansoman to watch Hearts v Liberty in Jan 2007.

This is NOT the motorway! It`s coming from University and or Adenta/Aburi foward to airport area, branching direction Winneba and Cape Coast at Tetteh Quarshie Intercange.
