Unfortunately they video really didn't do them justice... In person, they appeared like icy-cold boiling vapor. They were very high up and just looked... COLD!
Different layers in the atmosphere can be extremely thin (most people who have flown in commercil flights have seen just how many thin stratus and cirrus layers there can be), giving them a flat, textured look. It would be very cool to rise up with the camera to see a more 3-D perspective from different angles. :-)

These really looked a little strange, somehow more solid though 'flat', do you know why?
