Matt 20:25 and other texts appear to teach that elders are to lead by example and persuasion and not by means of exercising authoritative control which is how the heathen govern.

Please consider 1 Pet 5:3 which also emphasizes how pastors are to lead by example and not by means of supposed authoritative legislation: "nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock."

Also, Heb 13:17 teaches that christians are to seek to be persuaded by their spiritual leaders. Please see the video I did on this passage if you desire a more in depth explanation of my position on this text. The message is entitled: "What does it mean to obey and submit to our elders?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0PbT8jt0DE

  • Before I got kicked out of my last church, all the pastors took me into a room and started interrogating me to determine if I was the father of my girlfriends child which she was pregnant with at the time. I refused to answer because I felt it was not their business and that God had forgiven me if I had committed any sins, so they told me, "don't come back to this church", and then they turned around and lied to the congregation about me.
