I always thought this would make a nice quick video, especially after watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tqDvYoIZD0
I took scenes from two movies: The first is the HBO original RKO 281 (1999, directed by Benjamin Ross), the true story about the making of Citizen Kane. The second is The Cats Meow (2001, directed by Peter Bogdanovich), a semi-true story about a Hollywood murder aboard William Randolph Hearsts yacht. (I highly recommend both movies.) In this scene, Mank (John Malkovich) takes one last stab at convincing his best friend Orson (Liev Schrieber) not to make a movie attacking Hearst. So he tells an old story about Hearst and his possible involvement in the death of Hollywood mogul Thomas H. Ince.

Orson Welles: Liev Schrieber
Herman Mankiewicz: John Malkovich
William Randolph Hearst: Edward Herrmann
Marion Davies: Kirsten Dunst
Thomas H. Ince: Cary Elwes
Charlie Chaplin: Eddie Izzard
Louella Parsons: Jennifer Tilly

I own nothing. This video was created purely for entertainment purposes. RKO 281 footage belongs to HBO. The Cats Meow footage belongs to Lions Gate.

  • RKO 281 I know, but what's the other movie? The one with the dramatization of Ince's shooting?

  • @MrJackDamon The Cat's Meow.

  • Does anyone know what song plays during the credits of RKO 281?

  • I love how you mixed two scenes together beautifully, you almost fooled me.

  • Both wonderful movies.

  • Orson, I believe was "blackballed" after Davies' nephew gotta sneak peek @ Kane, which, he in turn told Davies, who in turn told Hearst. Hearst @ 1st tried to "persuade" Orson not to do Kane, then paid off the likes of Joe Kennedy? RKO and other studios to prevent the funding for the film's budget. Orson has untapped movies yet to be restored, can't wait for those either! Nixon trailed Welles via the IRS.

i want to see both of these soo bad!

  • rosebud!!! ;)

  • That was funny loves the line he has a pet name for a pussy lol

  • LOL after all that:

"Now you tell me, you still want to take a shaft to a man like that?"

"Are you kidding me? More than ever."
