Motorcycle Safety

In my 30+ years of riding and commuting everyday to work for the past 15 years, I have almost daily witnessed some dreadful scenes on the road.

I have been trying to cope with increasingly degrading skills and concentration of drivers for years. Reality check... It is very dangerous for motorcyclists in traffic.

My anger was intensifying to the point of simply abusing stupid drivers but this really doesn't achieve anything. Drivers will do what they do and I guess it is up to me to compensate.

With this in mind I thought I would redirect my frustration to better use and construct some videos aimed at providing advice to riders to help prepare for these daily examples of danger (there are not many trips I don't experience at least 1 dangerous situation). There is no better way than to include videos of them.

I hope these are helpful.

  • @mossi123uk How so?

  • @IRDUG so you didn't see the guy opening the taxi door without bothering to look, sending the rider into a dangerous situation?

  • Yeah I'd blame the cyclist on this one. Normally I'm pro cyclist but I think in this situation the cyclist had plenty of time to look ahead and see that a passenger was getting into the taxi.

  • I'd say that the cyclist is 85% in the wrong... and that's coming from a cyclist. The rider had a bit of speed going, probably not prudent on that grid locked peak hour road.

  • @fromriderseyes This guy was just getting into the car from the footpath, and they had every right to expect to be able to do so. It was the cyclist who was the bonehead, placing himself where he shouldn't be in the the first place (between car and the curb) and going much too fast.

It's very different from drivers opening their doors into the traffic without looking first, which I admit also happens a lot!

  • @fromriderseyes yes but the biker would have seen the guy standing there and should have slowed down and he didn't at all.and the door didnt really open any further than the guy that was standing there.

Poor observation on the bikers part.

  • I'm a subscriber, and yes, I watched the video; however, in my opinion, I believe the cyclist showed a lack of caution on his part and may have been traveling a bit too fast, especially due to the sidewalk maneuver that he had to make, he would have had to see, if he was looking far enough ahead. My comment is a bit convoluted, but I think you get my drift.

Lastly, I guess caution and observation on both parties' part, would have resulted in perfection.

    ;-)
