Corsair 747-400 Landing Maho Beach SXM During Hurricane Dean

The big daddy approaching Maho Beach on a warm August afternoon. It's windy because the outer bands of Hurricane Dean were just beginning. Later the winds were 090 at 30 knots gusting to 39, according to the ATC we heard at sunset beach bar

  • The Boeing is landing almost directly into the wind, it's 090 at 30. He's using runway 09 (now changed to 10). That's probably why it looks like a normal landing. If this had been crosswind, he would have had to divert.
