Puppy Testing - a bit of eye candy for those of you that love puppies!

A litter at the 47-49 day developmental marker is tested for baseline personality and/or temperament, sociability to people, places, things, events and litter mates, confidence, balance, independence, and motor skills.

It is a great indicator tot he breeder 'who' the puppies are starting out as so they can find the appropriate homes for each puppy.

It also gives the breeder good information on a puppy that might be late in developmental maturity and need more time with the breeder and/or litter.

Some times personality traits are measured that would indicate a puppy needs to go to an experienced home only. This information is great for matching appropriately to insure ONE forever home for the puppy, instead of a life time of bouncing around.

Testing takes 4-7 hours, generally in the middle of the day. 3-6 helpers/people are recommended, all ages preferred.

Breeders that have created an enriched environment for their puppies since birth tend to have litters that test very similar with little variation.

Breeders that have had the puppies on their own or pulled from the mother too soon have litters that tend to test like a 'village', the whole spectrum of personalities.

It is recommended that puppies remain with the breeder, mother, litter mates in an enriched learning environment until 9 1/2 to 10 weeks of age.
