I cant believe all the FAIL talk about the 392 Challenger can only run low 13's and high 12's. I guess some people just dont know the facts about the 392 and it running LOW 12's!!!!
OK I just looked up Motortrend 2012 road test. The Challenger ran 12.9 in the 1/4 and 4.5 0-60mph. This was with a manual trans. Ok I stand corrected they will run in the high 12's. I was thinking about the old SRT8 challenger with 426 hp. The new 392 is 470 hp. The new Challenger is on par with the Camaro and Mustang. But getting back to the 392 vs LT1 that even makes the LT1 more impressive in its win !
SRT8's do not run 12.5's stock no way much less run high 12's. They are low 13 sec cars at best and stock. My point is my 1993 Firehawk is almost 20yrs old and will stay ahead of a 40-50k car with just exhaust mods. Now the new Mustang GT 2012 and the new Camaro SS will run high 12's to 13 flat all day long. Sorry man they hammer the Dodge. Don't get me wrong out of all 3 new cars I like the Challenger the best. It is a tank though.
@mattspontiacta ok...thats best ever recorded times for the car and a whole second slower than ive seen stock srt8 and 10 mph in the trap...your point?
@mattspontiacta that camaro was super geared that was more like 110...and i clearly see the lt1 beat him in this race but its not faster...your car is low 13's with boltons and tires which make a huge difference plus years of experience in driving it...this guy drove like shit causing him to lose those...392's in all versions of the cars(300,charger,challenger,jeep) are high 12's at slowest...ive beat faster cars and ive also lost to slower cars..congrats on the win but your car isnt faster...
@mattspontiacta Oh definitely, in 1/4 this LT1 smashed this 392...It takes over 20 seconds for the 392 to catch up! I'm kind of surprised, with what everyone says these 392's can do. But I'm not surprised by the LT1 pulling this off. I had a 95 TA with a little work done to it, and the torque on that car was just ridiculous. The LT1 is underrated sometimes...My mechanic always said he liked the engine, but it was harder to work on compared to the LS1
@samsaleh22 - Look up 1993 LT1 Pontiac Firehawk Motorweek road test on youtube. They have a 1993 LT1 Firehawk running 13.5 @103 mph in the 1/4 and a 0-60 in 4.9 sec. My LT1 Firehawk with Mac midlength headers runs low low 13's at 106 mph. I can stay ahead of the new challenger 392 with no problem. I also lke the challenger it is a bad ass car. But it is heavy and that hurts performance.
@samsaleh22 -The challenger got beat. Yea it was coming up on the camaro at the end. If you count the gear shifts the camaro was half way through 5th gear! That is a overdrive gear just like 6th gear. 1/4 mile the LT1 won hands down easy. Looks like the LT1 stayed ahead about 130-140 mph on the top end also.
