@Commiton Actually in the USSR the people and the cartoons were not evil, the government was evil and the people understood it, that's why the communist ideology was broken as soon as democracy had appeared in Russia. But when you have the cruel government and you want to show it to everyone, even if the government will execute you for it, you will have a strong reason to live and make very beautiful things. That's why the people in Russia are making less beautiful things than in the last times.

@Commiton Spread the word. Its just too bad Soviet Union had to be oppposed so much, there was so much goodness that came out of it, but since it was demonized it was all nullified. Spread the word about Soyuzmultfilm cartoons

But Soviet Block and now Russian arts were and are almost non-existent in the public mind here. Everything Soviet was evil and suspect. There was and still isn't much interest in European Cinema except Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns... It's "The Ugly American" syndrome. My working class parents were unusually open minded about such things. And in every community there are some people who are curious and investigate.

Beautiful Animation! As a young man I saw a film by the Soviet era Czech, Karel Zeman. "A Deadly Invention / The Fabulous World of Jules Verne / L'Invention diaboliqueIt". It began my interest in the novels of Jules Verne. For forty years I wanted to see it. I couldn't remember the title. Finally someone posted it on You Tube!
When my daughter was young we found a VHS of Soyuzmultfilm Studios "Ivan's Magic Pony" (in English also).
