Practical uses for this contraption: complicated burglar alarm, a unique doorbell, commission for eviction.

oddly enough, I can tell that you are not a musician just by the WORDS you wrote. Funny how that works, eh?

  • That's very interesting - you should submit it to the Make Blog -

I submitted my computer interface laser pointer project but they ignored it; XD Fail XD.

What is the milliamp draw of all of those solenoids? What kind of board is that? Did you program the chip yourself?

  • this is pure music bitch!

  • @pbl826 - I don't think it's necessary to worry over that. The way music has evolved even these past ten years, old techniques and instruments gain sudden popularity as new generations of artists and composers use them in ways that hadn't been thought of before. Not all good ways, but still :)

The Taiko Drum for instance, has gained a lot of fandom due to its use in soundtracks, perhaps particularly after Bear McCreary used them to such great effect in Battlestar Galactica.

  • @elitisty I am more than happy for scientific advances in music - I myself am a musician who embraces the latest in music technology. All I am saying is clips like this demonstrate what I see all too often these days - guys who make the tech get too carried away by the tech itself, and don't actually understand anything about music - something that IS worth preserving the PAST over - the same rules and lessons apply even to modern tech. As for the Koto vs Taiko - you are correct.

  • @pbl826 - I don't see why you're so afraid of scientific advances in music. The more powerful and varied a musician's tools are, the more brightly will that musician's talent shine. An artist, if he were to stick only to drumming, would only be able to realize a fraction of his creative potential.

Additionally, a Koto is a string instrument, not a drum. You were perhaps referring to the Taiko drum, an instrument often used in conjunction with electronic music, to great effect.

  • @elitisty What is more pretentious than music for the sake of technique - ie "scientific" music? The best musicians in history were not just those who mastered the technique, but those who used that technique to express their personalities in the most incredible and original ways. This crap just says "I know rhythm, and I'm a programmer". It pales into insignificance when heard next to, for example, Koto drummers from Japan. Their technique is just as good, but their art is 1000% times better.

  • @pbl826 - You seem to think that being pretentious somehow validates your argument. It doesn't work that way.

If nobody ever thought of music as a science we would all still be listening to acoustic instruments.

  • braa, go outsiDe!

  • @pbl826 I can tell you are full of shit. Music IS a science.

  • Very cool :) Do you have a worklog of this?
