Rachmaninoff, after hearing Horowitz play the Rach 3rd, said that it sounded as if Horowitz had swallowed it whole, and out came the perfect rendition. I would say the same of this Cliburn performance of this Liszt Hungarian rhapsody. I like this piece by others, such as Rubenstein, whose performance is fascinatingly eccentric, or Kissin's, which is clarity personified, as usual. But for this piece, Cliburn has the real magic.
