Thin Air, Cool Temperatures and the MOST incredible landscape I have ever seen.
The curtains open and we start out on the Lares Trek, one of the many Inca Trails that snake through the Peruvian Andes. The pace was perfect, 33 kilometers over 3 days gave us plenty of time to shift into a lower gear and take in all the small things, which are equally amazing as the big things... but often missed. The Lares Trek took us to an altitude of 4.6 kilometers, the highest my two East Coast feet have been in the air! Originally I was a bit torn we were not able to get permits to hike the famous Inca Trail. By the end of the first day on the alternate Lares Trek, I was happy they made the switch. We saw 1 other tour group in 3 days, plus it put us face to face with llamas, alpacas and also the Quetcha people who live in the mountains. The Inca Trail might have ruins, but we had serenity, better views and interaction with the local culture.
The hike was such an amazing experience, we had to hit the town! We needed our dose Peruvian nightlife as well as try the local poison. In this case it was Cusqueña. Damn that was a good beer.

@littlejessmo Haha Amen. Made those puffy eyed wake up after a night of altitude induced vivid dreams a lot easier!
