Rogers "freedom from oughts" is widely misunderstood as relativism. Cf. his "A Modern Approach to the Valuing Process" in Freedom to Learn, where he affirms universal values as built in: "sincerity, independence, self direction," but also "social responsivity, social responsibility and loving interpersonal relationships." (last page) "The first, in my experience, to plainly use the word love in a distinctly academic context was Carl Rogers." Marian Kinget, On Being Human, p. 95
