IMHO is not the European model that's at fault, it's a really good system to have everyone united, the main problem is the IMF and the bankers, they are the ones that are trying to rob everyone blind. Get rid of Frac reserve banking, IMF and the likes, and the Euro Zone will work.. same thing is happening here in North America.
