    That's the Gervais style. It's his trademark, funny, very funny but very uncomfortable. As Steve Carell plays the role Gervais wrote (co-wrote with Stephen Merchant) for himself in the US remake of The Office naturally the two of them together know how to play this form of funny-but-painful humour. I can't think of anybody who could do it better.
