a radio transmitter receives no signal when enclosed by a net of iron wires. it's able to receive signal upon contact with a human body. why?

  • I have seen an entire roomsurrounded by a wire mesh (grounded) to isolate it from radio signals. Also there is an area in west virginia where transmitters are illeagl because they listen for aliens.

  • It's a radio RECEIVER. Not a transmitter.

  • Your body acts as an antenna, nothing unusual.

  • Great example of a Faraday Shield.. Also how the human body can change the capacitance and act as the antenna.

  • im not 100 percent certain how the wire cage stops all the radio signals, surely some must go through, but the hole size might determine what frequencies dont go through. When you touch the radio, your body essentially becomoes the antenna to let the signal to the radio.

  • just like electricity signals can conduct into you if strong enough and because your conducted to earth its making a loop between the aerial and the floor that makes it a balanced signal hence thats why the radio works
