@jbehrm The man is James Marriage, an English lute-maker. He makes these videos to demonstrate the lutes as he finishes them; I know this because he made me a very nice 10-course lute (and it was very cheap too!)

This piece can be found in Tree Editions, transcribed for lute by Richard Darsie 1987 from an ms in the library of Mr Henry Barret Lennard,Esq Hampstead. The ms dates from the early 1710's before his first publications of keyboard music in 1720.

Hey, awesome playing! I love the lute. I play the guitar, not at the the moment though because I have a touch of tendonitis. When I'm better I want to learn the lute. Of the lutes you've played, which one would you say is the most ergonomic?

Thanks for your compliment, there are various sizes of lutes as you will see on you-tube some with huge bodies like the chitarrone but the back is elliptical in cross-section which makes it abit easier to hold. Most people seem to prefer the smaller student lute model after Hans Frei, which you can see on my videos. Others like the size of the Tieffenbrucker which is 66.5cm stringlength, usually I find they are taller than the people who like the Hans Frei.
