In May 2008, the Museum of Science and Industry opened the exhibit "Smart Home: Green + Wired," featuring a modular home created by California-based Michelle Kaufmann designs.

The 2,500 square-foot mkSolaire model home demonstrates several green building techniques including the use of recycled materials, sustainable gardens and a green roof.

In this video, Mark Boyer of YoChicago.com talks to Anne Rashford, MSI's director of temporary exhibits, about the exhibit's history, purpose and design.

  • well i want to see inside the house

  • Well obviously more space = more money. If you're underprivileged perhaps a 2500 square foot house is out of your range. However there are lots of green homes built using reclaimed materials and straw bales. Just search "straw homes" and find some videos. One woman claims to have made her home for 50,000 dollars using this method.

  • This is what I hate that people design green homes that only privileged people can afford. Design me house under 100k that is green and has 2500 square foot.

  • great work!!
