I recorded this video at the recent debate, hosted by peta2—PETAs youth division—at Harvard University. PETA vice president Bruce Friedrich faced off against Wes Hopkin from the Harvard Speech and Parliamentary Debate Society to argue whether or not eating animals is ethical.

Sorry about the shakiness—I filmed this from the audience. Enjoy!

  • @pandaya Yes but I never said that people should kill the cows after milking the cows. Yes that does happen where they first milk the cow and then slaughter them. What Im saying is that we should take the good from animals which is the milk product because you are not hurting the animal by doing so. Vegetarianism and veganism is just terms people made up along the way so u can say they mean anything. but there is nothing wrong with drinking cows milk

  • @DGRANDMASTER - that's wrong. All dairy cows are eventually slaughtered and all calves are slaughtered, usually after being stolen from their mothers. That's why people say there is a bit of veal in every glass of milk. I'd recommend you look up more information about milk. It's not as great as the propaganda says. There are plenty of milk substitutes, anyway. The standard definition is that vegetarianism means you can eat eggs and dairy. Veganism is avoiding all animal products.

  • @GorillaFitUSA Vegetarianism does not mean you have to eat eggs.Being a vegetarian means not eating meat.Egg is considered a meat product. & therefore is not part of a vegetarian lifestyle. However cheese and milk and dairy products such as these are not meat products because you do not kill the animal (cow) to get milk or cheese from it. Milk is very good for the body and especially for babies. That is why I personally think veganism is not a right thing to do if you cut milk out your lifestyle

  • Because you don't achieve a massive goal if you don't take gradual steps. Not everyone is like you or me and find veganism easy. Making the transition from meat eating to purely non-meat eating is big leap forward, is still vastly more environmentally friendly and it means less of a demand for the slaughter of animals. Ideally yeah, veganism would be the next step but if you've spent the last few years living at McDonalds not everyone is going to cut out EVERYTHING over night.
