The male alway seemed to have brighter color then the female,he needs it to attract the female,and as for the duller color on the female,i think it's because the female need to sit on the nest or on the eggs for along period of time,nature designed them that way to protect them against predators for the eggs to hatch.The male birds color are brightest during mating season,i supposed even among birds,there can be love at first sight hahahaaa...
