  • Is there really a lack of "moto" Sailors that a USMC Gunny has to conduct pt? Not that there's a problem with that, Marines are awesome conditioned machines, but it sends a negative message about the fittness level of Sailors.

  • @leiro76 It's more of a tradition that navy officers are trained by gunny's. I don't know why, but the same applies to Officer school in rhode island, not just NROTC. I would imagine that the Naval Academy also has gunny's running the place. And yeah, I've met a LOT of fat sailers, so they probably wouldn't be very good at PT anyway.

  • @bigyam5555 i'm planning on being a SWO but im kinda nervous about orientation. what should i do to prepare. im just average for fitness right now

  • is does the navy option do the same orientation as the marine option?

  • I wanna be a nuclear engineer designing and building new and more efficient power sources for military bases and subs. I am planning on going to MIT, Brown, Princeton, Wisconsin Madison, RPI, West Point, or Annapolis. But I don't meet the physical standards for the nrotc (short arms and legs, small tendons [lack of flexibility], ancestral heart problems, etc.) is there any way I can achieve that goal without nrotc?

  • @TheBackyardhooligans Yep, I had friends that were varsity sports players. They were excused from NROTC activities when they had practices and games.

  • I've been thinking about doing NROTC. Probably not at Cornell though. I wanna become a Pilot and fly planes. SOAR THRU SKY LIKE SHARK IN SEA

  • @leiro76 It's not due to a lack of anything necessarily. But NROTC doesn't only train Navy officers, but Marine Officers as well, thus it's necessary for EVERYONE to be in as proper shape as possible. If that means being in Marine Corps shape, then so be it. But when training becomes more advanced, Navy wanabes tends to go one way and Marines/ Navy SEAL wanabes go another way.

  • hi i'm a high school junior with good grades and stuff and could probably get into cornell.

however, i've never done a varsity sport in school. I play tennis and am very athletic. I also work out (like lift weights twice a week and run and push ups, ect...) I just did not place athletics as a very high priority.

Do you think i could get into nrotc at cornell (not as marine option?)

  • Yay! I do NJROTC and we do every week!

  • I like dem pt shorts
