Sounds of my Akai EWI. It is connected to a Roland XV2020 with custom patches from Patchman.com.

  • oh and your playing is excelent wish i be as good someday.

i dont much about saxophone, but im learning, so can growling sound of saxophone be played both tenor and alto, i even dont know diference between those, other is bigger i dont know wichone, sorry for asking so many questions, but im so interested, cause im some sort of artist but im not inspirated by painting anymore so much, but now makin music i have sudden passion, weird :)

  • You are very kind. I am really just an amateur. Tenor is bigger. Growling sound on a real sax is (I am told) made by humming as you blow on the reed. Growling sound on the EWI is programmed into the voice. The great thing about not being a professional musician is that I can play purely for my own satisfaction. You can certainly do the same.

  • does it matter how hard you blow to the ewi does it make diference in sound like in real instrument??.

  • Sure, thats the idea. Actually, there is a breath sensitivity control that is so sensitive that I needed to start at the halfway setting and gradually increase it as I was learned to control the instrument. There is also a separate vibrato function controlled by bite, controls to pitchbend up and down and a portamento. Of course, the programming of the voice must be done correctly. That's why patchman's voices are more realistic than the stock voices.

  • @ajsapiro thanx for aswering, can i mute it to others and listen my own playing with earphones, and how close does it sound for real saxophone? and if i learn to play with ewi can i then move on to real saxophone and be able to play that?

and im planing to learn by myself just by trial and error, just by trying to make nice sound, it like therapy. how much ewi costs?. thank you :)

  • you can certainly use earphones, directly from the EWI or from the synthesizer module. I think if you want to play a real saxophone, you need to buy a real sax and learn to play it. The list price is $699, but you might be able to find one for less.

  • Proud to have been #26 to watch you perform!!! My 4000 from Patchman is on the way. I feel like 7 year old waiting for Santa!!! I played bari sax back in high school, but that was 30+ years ago. But, I still find myself fingering a saxophone when I read music....wish me luck Tom
