UEM (William Harrington and Andy Sykora) with guest Jasmine Orpilla at Resbox, The Steve Allen Theater, 8/20/09. Part 2 of a 3 movement piece.
Several months ago, we were invited to present a musical performance at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood as part of the ResBox series.
During rehearsal, Jasmine noticed a magazine I had from the '70s that outlined the atrocities committed by Idi Amin. We decided to use that text as the "libretto" for the piece. As the piece evolved, I decided to break it up into 3 sections (or movements). Sections 1 & 3 had Andy on electronics, Jasmine on voice and me on synths. Section 2 is acoustic. Andy switched to gongs and percussion and I switched to soprano saxophone. Jasmine remained on voice. The sections were timed - 10, 5, 15 minutes. The synth patches and scales (equal and just intonation) were worked out during rehearsal. Other than that, the entire piece was improvised.

I see your point, but i like the effect of the changing lights over the players, it's a kind of surrealistic aura

Very, very impresive visuals! I love the black and white! the only thing is (just my thoughts) it would have been better impact if only was projected on the background only, and not over the players
