Live concert audio of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" from the 1997 Reunion Tour recorded in Costa Mesa, CA. Sung beautifully by James Griffin, with the great Larry Knechtel on piano. This is an audience recording, so the sound quality isn't perfect, but the rarity of live Bread recordings makes it a treasure.
Sadly, James and Larry have both passed away now. Larry left us on August 20th, 2009. May they rest in peace.
Bread Reunion Tour:
~ James Griffin
~ David Gates

@LiteOfYourMind Wasn't this recording a segment of the show that showcased Larry's Grammy winning performance (pre-Bread) and Jimmy's Oscar winning penned "For All We Know?" Yes ... they only performed snippets of their songs.
But what a treasure to have!

Great to hear Larry bashing this one out for old times sake. So sad to think that ten years after that reunion tour, only Gates remains.

Don't forget Robb Royer, though. He was an original member of bread, and is still very much alive and well.

Sadly, Michael Botts also passed away from cancer in late 2005. He had been playing for some time with Dan Fogelberg and was quite a drummer. That means 3/4 of Bread are now gone. A great band and some great players. dbs

Most people don't know that James Griffin was also an amazing songwriter. He wrote one of my favorite songs "For All We Know" recorded by the Carpenters.

Absolutely. He was a phenomenal songwriter. It's unfortunate so many people did not know how talented he was, and only noticed David Gates. Thank you for commenting.

Wow! This is a new one for me. I knew it existed, but I've never actually heard it till now. Doesn't Jimmy sound amazing on this?! Such a fantastic singer. We miss you so much, Jimmy. Thanks for posting this fo all the world to enjoy. June in Ireland

Yes, he was a fantastic vocalist. I think this is one of the best versions of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" ever. The only problem with it is that it is much too short, and it was not recorded with professional equipment. He could have done it such justice with a longer version recorded with professional equipment.
