It flopped because it wasn't established enough. It wasn't established enough because the filmmakers had the balls to not cave to the greed of the bigger corporations (Universal, Warner, etc.)

So, to be blunt, it flopped because it was too good for an indie flick. Here's to Idlewild. Excellent movie.

This was one of the best original musical movies that have ever been made and I''m not into musicals really. Just happen to watch the movie a couple of nights ago on BET and was enamored at the quality acting, the music, and how they incorportated the early styled dancing with hip hop. I consider this a winner in my book. Will definitely get this on DVD for my collection. My sister n law and my brother saw it also and gave it two thumbs up.

lol stanley from thats so raven...we past the real idlewild on our way back from mackinaw..yes the real place is in michigan..and it was not really wild my grandparents used to have a cottages up there it was bascially a place where middle class place people could hang because in detroit was still majority white and black people really could have real fun..there wasnt really bar fights and stuff like in the movie, but since civil rights and the white people moved out from detroit
