I've been using this principle with my bikes, v-strom, blade, ex-up, cbr600, vf500, for many a year however I simply use an axle stand under the swingarm or footpeg ;))

It only lifts the wheel UP enough to roll the tire and lube the chain. Most bike I've seen have some kind of hole to use the device with. Plus Lift-n-Lube makes different adapters for different bikes.
