Beginnings of dualism during the move from the bicameral mind to the conscious mind. The progression: Egyptian Ka, which was the hallucinated voice of a recently deceased person was equated to Ba which was the mythological manifestation of Ka and was usually denoted as a bird. The Greeks used this concept in their word Psyche which was later transposed into Life/Soul. The "voices" began disappearing with the advent of consciousness, so oracles and auguries designed to reinvigorate them burgeoned. Hypnosis is discussed and how the collective cognitive imperative enables extra abilities not found in normal conscious behavior.

  • Read the book and I liked the idea of opening the mind so it will expand. This book makes you question excistince, opens your mind to look or become a seeker to find answers becouse you have never heard any thing like it before, doe's it not make you stop to think. and that is the point of it. any book that can do that is just fine by me.

  • Breath like the gnostic Pneuma ?

Great posts very interesting parallels indeed. I must go read Ishmael.

  • Very interesting series -- thanks very much. It's clear I've got some more reading to do.
