In addition, the high-performance design incorporates many environmentally friendly and energy-saving green-building techniques.
UMass President Jack M. Wilson , Robert C. Holub , UMass Amherst chancellor, and the Mahoney brothers of Springfield, Robert, Richard and William, who donated $2 million toward the building, were among the speakers. Steve Goodwin , dean of the College of Natural Sciences, Congressman John Olver and Henry Thomas III, UMass Amherst Trustee, also spoke.
