I think what people don't realize about this movie is that Tony is not supposed to be idolized. In the end he ends up alone and miserable. He has all the material wealth he dreamed of, but it's all empty. He kills his bestfriend, his wife leaves him, his mother disowns him, he develops a major drug problem and starts to lose control of everything he fought to create. When he's finally murdered by his friend and business partner, what does he have to show for it all?
