Understanding poker betting and the very low equity needed to make most calls is essential for fixed-limit poker both pre-flop and post-flop. As opposed to no-limit and pot-limit games, your "fold equity" in fixed-limit is extremely low. Since both your pre- and post-flop bets will get called a lot, you should bluff less and value bet more. Via this calculator, I explain the math behind fixed-limit pre-flop bet sizes in Texas Hold 'em and 7-Card Stud. I also take a detailed look at the equity needed to make the respective calls with and without antes as well as the (almost non-existent ;-) fold equity you need when making the move as a pure bluff.
