I don't think she was really scared of her. I think she sat down because she didn't want to fight her and was probably thinking, it wasn't worth it. She also didn't want to get in trouble. I don't think she was scared because when the big girl was all up in her space, she got all up in her face when the big girl could have punched her or hit her. In my opinion, she wasn't scared of her. She just didn't want to fight her.
