Madagascar Hissing Cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa).

This was actually the first time I'd heard one hiss. What a treat! These cockroaches produce a hissing sound by quickly expelling air through their spiracles, long tubes on their thorax and abdomen that lead to their respiratory system. Males will hiss when fighting each other or trying to attract females, but both genders will hiss when disturbed. Hissers are also unusual because they lack wings.

Video recorded at the Sonoran Arthropod Studies Institute in Tucson, AZ.
