Many men are barbarians, even now. Many or most of them feel nothing but envy at the wealth of those greater than they. But what is their desire? Not to have that wealth for themselves; the desire for prosperity is wholesome and normal.

Instead, they desire that those greater than they should lose their greatness; they desire to pull others down rather than themselves up.

For everyone who comments on the construction of weapons by wealthy nations: The fact is that barbarism needs no explanation. For man, it is the natural state. Man qua man has changed little over the centuries, though our knowledge has increased by leaps and bounds.

Civilization, on the other hand, is not the natural state. That it is infinitely better is unquestionable, by any sane standard, but it isn't hard to slip backwards. And there are so many who wish to slip backwards.

@NeoSpriggan Let me guess, the strategy is to think positive thoughts? It is not about feeling bad or feeling guilty, it is about being aware. This films and documentaries are made to awaken and exposed people to the real world, instead of the media/hollywood fantasy we're all drilled with since birth. Our governments keep making weapons because WE allow them to. So yeah, keep thinking postive thoughts NeoPhilosopher, I am sure happy thoughts is all that is needed to change the world we live in.

I live in a country that was built by hard working struggling men through countless generations fighting for their dream and for what they love, and you expect me to feel for a bunch of people that chose to live in mud houses and never even tried to think of using a better material other than trash.

Sorry, you have diseases because you just suck (unless it's the cause of an oppressive government which again can be solved by the people).
