  • Great stuff. This was indeed February 1983. That new set was the last in a series of rapid set changes since 1976, when the program unveiled a new set every year or two during its "midlife crisis" period. (Jane Pauley joked about walking into the studio and being surprised by a new set.) By February 1985, "Today" was inching toward first place, and debuted a beautiful new set featuring the Manhattan skyline and a penthouse living room -- which lasted until 1990.

  • Thanks for posting this. I think that this was the "Today" set that was unveiled circa February 1983. It lasted just two years until 1985, I believe. Willard Scott lambasted the 1983 set. He is quoted in "USA Today" in 1983 as saying more-or-less that it was a "$19.95 job."
