UPDATE!! Xenoblade has been announced for the US!

Part one of a full video review of the UK localized version of Xenoblade Chronicles (English version). This is a JRPG exclusive for the Wii released on 8/19/2011 in Europe by Monolith Soft. There are currently no stated plans to bring this game to the US.

SPOILER FREE: What I mean by this is that I avoid mentioning any details about the story beyond the first couple hours of gameplay, and any surprises in the first few hours are not mentioned. I also show gameplay footage only from the first approximately 5 hours of the game.

Xenoblade is named in the same lineage as Xenogears and the Xenosaga series (Episodes I, II, and III). Many of the same people have worked on all of the Xeno- games, and Yasunori Mitsuda is back as a music composer.

Xenoblade Chronicles is strangely not available on the Xbox 360 or PS3. What does Fox think of this game? Find out in this Foxeo Games review!!

This game is similar to the following modern games: Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Story, Eternal Sonata, Resonance of Fate, Lost Odyssey, Monster Hunter, World of Warcraft (with no online elements)

It is similar to the following classic games: Secret of Mana/Evermore and Chrono Trigger for the SNES, and Xenogears for the PS1.

  • The Lost Story has multiplayer

But Xenoblade Chronicles is open world

    ...

    So hard to choose one....

  • @yutao1 It's important to keep in mind that it's "semi-open world." The world slowly opens up more and more, and by the end of the game you'll be able to travel anywhere in the game at nearly anytime. But, the good news is that as you unlock each part of the game, you are free to go back to them and explore and find new areas, monsters, items, and collectables.

While not open-world in the Skyrim sense, it's far more open-world than the majority of JRPGs I've played.

  • every jrpg needs to be localised in the UK from now on, no more whiny american accents, (no offence, its just the actors chosen)

it would be cool for the next final fantasy to get the same treatment (even though versus XIII is clearly set in a american style city it would work so well with British actors, somehow)

  • @ThatLostNoob94 Based on this game, I must agree -- the voice acting is much better than any other JRPG I've heard. It's better than any of the US or Japanese localizations I've heard thus far -- from ANY other JRPG. Better than the FF series games, too.

  • I recommend Japanese voices with subtitles, sounds way more epic.

  • @mattpryor216 I can understand most of the Japanese they're speaking, and for me it just doesn't sound as good as the UK dubbing. And yes, I call it UK dubbing because although it's the European version, it's all in English with various English accents.

    I hope the American voice-acting doesn't disappoint.
