This is Story No. 1 by 93-year-old Detroiter John H. Gooden, the father of my friend Sala (also Lula) Adams, which he shared in his West Side home on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
Dad recalls the time when his mother, Lula Gooden of Sumter, S. C., who, like his father, was a "great evangelist" in the "holy sanctified religion," was thought to have died when he was a boy in the 1920s. However, she was actually in a "coma," from which she soon recovered. While she in this condition, she had vivid visions of things that would come to pass, as Dad bears witness to.
I would like to thank my friend Kenn Brown for kindly loaning me his camcorder to record Papa Gooden's story.
This is a treasure. Dad is enjoying his fame in the prime of life. Thanks, Paul!
