  • A 243 is not a baby gun. I have killed many deer. It has fantastic range.

    Thumbs up if you agree!

  • She's fucking ugly

  • That made me laugh my butt off when she hit it on the first try. : ) Thanks guys.

  • @IcabodCrane thats true.

308's similar but it kicks a bit harder. Also with various .243 slugs over the 100 grain range (like the DTAC) you can get BC's in the high 500's, the DTAC itself being .585. Compare the two on a ballistic calculator and you'll see why most military organizations put an 800 yard effective range on the .308.

The .308 is, however, ridiculously dependable in most temperature ranges you'd expect to deal with. This is probably the biggest reason so many places still use them.

  • Great Shooting, Heather! Make him hang his own damn targets, You beat him!

  • i wonder how she goes with shooting love snot

  • @IcabodCrane cool. only thing close i fired to a 7.62 is a .308 which i think is pretty much the same more or less.

(Cont) and the energy retained by said DTAC round is damn near even if not superior. Though the Army rates the 7.62 NATO/.308 standard loads good out to 1000 yards, the primary reason the military uses them is because they're reliably consistent in all weather conditions out to 800. I could go on about how the M16's adoption was a mistake, but the bottom line is simple: a .243 is vastly superior to both the .223 and the 7.62x39mm AK/SKS round.

Well said. What I -really- find ironic is how many people will call the .243 a baby gun, but in the same breath will ramble on about how awesome their Ar-15 is. SWAT in California used .243's in the origin of the program...and why military and law enforcement don't use this round commonly is beyond my comprehension. .223's have proven time and time again to be mediocre, yet a .243 with a 115 grain DTAC retains more velocity at 1000 yards than a 175 grain boat tail 7.62 NATO.

Bout 35-50% of the recoil numbers wise. A lot of people (with small dicks/minds) call a .243 a girl/kids gun because it's got recoil very similar to the 7.62x39mm. Though many (small dicked) people consider it to be small for deer it's taken plenty of them in the hands of children. In my opinion if a child without seasoned skills and marksman class aim can drop a large deer with this caliber, then it's definitely plenty of gun for those who do have such skill.
