King County Metro loaned a trolleybus from Vancouver's TransLink for their Trolley System Evaluation. This bus travelled 8 city blocks using 75% of its emergency battery.

  • You mean King County borrowed a trolleybus - right?

  • @SilvermanStan Ummm, yeah.

  • why was it in Seattle? Doesn't Vancouver already have a trolley bus system?

  • @guinessbeer Seattle needs to replace its old trolleys by 2014, either with new trolleys or new hybrid diesel buses. So it wants to know what new ones might cost them in maintenance. Yes, Vancouver has a large system.

  • so are the busses being replaced the brightly coloured green and yellow and blue and yellow ones I think there are othe colours too

  • It's so nice to see a Translink teaming up with Sound Transit or Metro Transit.

  • Let's hope that Seattle get these buses.

  • I'm glad they did this. :D

  • 0:10 likes the Translink bus with the Articulated bus in the background. This is when the poles are down when dewire or no wires at all. Seattle's wire switches are diffrent than the Vancouver switches

  • @guinessbeer we do, but Vancouver was showcasing the trolleys how Vancouver has the nice low floor buses, unlike seattle, there the high floors.

  • It was my understanding that the air-brakes are limited to on-board air and that the air compressor doesn't run while on battery. If that is true, they must have a larger air tank and/or make use of regenerative braking - I don't think I could make one of our trolley buses go that far using the brakes as much as they did.

  • It's great that Seattle has decided to test Vancouver's new trolley bus.

  • It's good that Seattle has decided to try one of the new Vancouver trolley buses. If they like it, they can plan on how to pay for new buses.

  • It's good that someone in King County decided to try a Vancouver trolleybus on Seattle streets so they can see what a modern trolleybus can do rather than just whine about the upkeep cost of the old trolleybuses. If they like it, they can plan on how to fund the purchase of new buses.
