Prelude for 05 October 2008
(camcorded in practice session)

Wayne Burcham-Gulotta,
Music Director/Organist

Since we don't have a Solo Tuba as the score calls for, the Tuba sound is the Great Trumpet (1918 Steere) and Great Trompette (1979 Church) used together. The Plenum and LH Accomp. is registered using only stops from the 1918 Steere (except for the last two measures).

J. W. Steere & Son Organ Co., Opus 701, 1918
originally 4/40 drawknob console
now 3/49 stoptab concole

Ernest M. Skinner bought out Steere in 1920 and Skinner ran Steere as a separate company for about a year. Then they brought it into the fold as a separate Skinner factory. For a time organs being built there had the Skinner name but were essentially Steere organs. Much of the great Skinner at Woolsey Hall, Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA is Steere (1915 major enlargement of 1902 Hutchings). Final expansion to the Skinner instrument at Yale we know today was the 1928-1929 rebuild.

  • You are very kind, thanks.

  • Wayne,

Do you play recitals from time to time? You sure are a talented musician and a first rate organist. The color and articulation in your playing are outstanding. I always look forward to your new postings. I am still hoping some day that you play Virgil's arrangement of "Ye Sweet Retreat" by Boyce. I love playing the piece, and it is very beautiful, but I want to see how someone of your talents attacks those chords.

  • Thanks, organEd. We too are Episcopal at Redeemer. I happened to use it as a prelude this Sunday since I wanted something very upbeat, but yes, it would work quite well for a postlude.

  • Wayne, that is a very beautiful piece. It sounds like a great postlude piece. I think, though, that one can use it as a prelude for certain seasons in the liturgical year. I play for an Episcopal Church.

  • Thanks, Mark (aka BhigDaddy).

    Greetings from NJ to FL.

  • Wayne,

You consistently post absolutely wonderfully played videos with powerful music to boot. This one I really enjoyed as I heard a lot changes that I employ in my playing. Thanks for posting this and all of your great videos. The Bhigdaddy has spoken............Lol!

  • Bonjour, Thanks for viewing and your kind comments.

Les salutations de Nouveau Jersey à Paris.
