Recording with Hans-André Stamm from the concert on 7th June 2009 in the Church Saint Jean-Bapist in Herve, Belgium on the organ from 1672 (unknown organ builder), enlarged by Picard (?) in 1741, restored by Georges Westenfelder in 1978 and 1997.
Little is known about the French composer and organ virtuoso Louis Marchand. He was organist at the Kings chapel in Versailles. At that time he had trouble with his wife (and she with him). The asked the King the half of her husbands salary and Louis XIV agreed. The proud Marchand dared to revenge this decision by leaving the organ in the midst of the service, saying: half salary for me, half music. The King became angry and exiled him from France. So Marchand travelled through Europe as a harpsichord virtuoso. In Dresden he avoided to meet Bach for a musical competition when he heard about his quality. Later he returned to France and died there.
Ah ha! Caught you copying Andre Isoir! But very very well played.

Fabulous in every respect. There is nothing that even resembles the great 'French Classical' school - registration, harmony, tonality, everything is glorious about this music. What a wonderful, energetic, exuberant performance!
