An encounter at a horrible elevator inside the Pittsburgh Convention Center developed into this angry but funny (?) conversation.

Bloggers Maegan Ortiz of Vivir Latino, Nazua of Unapologetic Mexican, versus me Carlos Quiroz of Carlos in DC.

  • I will have to agree with Meagan on this one. It seems that you (Carlos) don't seem to grasp the unique experience of Latinos that were born and raised in the US. Just bc you think that speaking Spanglish is the ghettoization of Hispanic/Latino culture doesn't mean that it is. Spanglish is a unique and common way of commuicating with peers and family. Spanglish isn't even using slang. It's using two separate languages and combining them into one.

  • @CarlosDCblog well us puertoricans and mexicans are the same and it goes deeper than being latinos but we are indigenous like before 1492 what was we called mexicans were aztecs and puertoricans were tainos diffrent tribes but we have the same pride cause our roots are indigenous before the spainards came and slaved us

  • @jmusmc85 --magrant!!! And theres nothing wrong with either!

  • So she has no basis to speak on. YOU DO. So it is YOUR job to inform us, those who don't know!!! Don't leave it all up to an American born Latina to inform everybody about what issues are important to recent immigrants. She's doing her best, lighten up. That's like me pressuring you to write more about the Cuban experience in Miami. Should I blame you for not understanding Cubans and their unique struggles? No. Not everyone is an im

  • Also, you did very little to explain yourself. You seemed more concerned with getting your camera time than actually trying to understand the situtation at hand. Understand that while yes, the indigenous roots are a very important part of the Hispanic/Latino culture, it is NOT the only part. If she had little experience or grew up with little knowledge to indigenous experience you can't blame her. She is a Latina from NYC. She is not you. She is not an immigrant (I believe). Cont...
