Mikhail Sergeevich goes home

The last President of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, was born into a peasant family in the village of Privolnoye near Stavropol. Gorbachev studied law at Moscow University, where he met his future wife, Raisa. They married in September 1953 and moved to Gorbachev's home region of Stavropol in southern Russia when he graduated in 1955. Politics came later. In this excerpt from a fine documentary by Russian film maker Vitaly Mansky, Gorbachev returns to the family home at Easter, embraces an ancient aunt, visits his former high school and, finally, movingly, recalls Raisa's final days.

Gorbachev has always impressed me. He showed a lot of soul in this video clip. He helped normalize relations between the USA and Soviet Union. As Russia moves further into the future, I endorse peaceful relations between the American and Russian people. We can learn a lot from each other and prosper by sharing ideas.

That guy deserves the Nobel Peace prize for every year there is not war in Europe. He was critical in a graceful exit from the Cold War. Amazing to think he'd probably still be in power if the USSR survived.
