A VIDEO TRIBUTE THAT I PUT TOGETHER FOR KIDDIELAND AMUSEMENT PARK IN MELROSE PARK IL WHICH IS CLOSING DOWN PERMANENTLY ON SEPTEMBER 27TH 2009.. KIDDIELAND HAS BEEN IN OPERATION SINCE 1929 AND HAS BEEN THE SOURCE OF ENTERTAINMENT FOR MANY GENERATIONS OF CHILDREN IN THE CHICAGOLAND AREA THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.. IT WILL BE MISSED..THIS VIDEO FOOTAGE WAS SHOT ON SEPTEMBER 7TH 2009..
Back in the day we lived in Bellwood not far from Kiddleland , and my cousin at 84th & Harlem. There was a amusement park at 79th & Mannheim (or close to that). So as kids we were covered when we visited and always begged to go to a park; didn't happen often but we begged anyway. The south side one went early, b4 Riverview, I think. Now all three are gone. It was great fun, and will be missed.
No, they lost the land lease the park was sitting on. Other family members own the property, not the rides. So after 80 years it's gone. I worked here in 1976. It was a great summer! Thanks for posting the video. Besides the trains, I think my fave was the handcars.
