  • The truth is, nothing makes you concentrate on the road like having not concentrated on the road and having an accident. But honestly, anything can be a distraction and I really believe the only fix is to SERIOUSLY concentrate on driving. I think in all scenarios it isn't the distraction as much as it is a lack of consideration for the need to concentrate. Radio, phone, food or passengers. Or complacency.

  • @marleyinoc Absolutely agree, there are many other distractions and concentration on your driving is essential.

  • I agree. I fail too tho.

I DO text and drive, albeit with some care. I had an accident 10 years or more ago, though, that was a result of adjusting the controls for my stereo... And since then, I really have taken notice of what distracts me from viewing the road in front of me and I have noticed that EVERYTHING distracts you. The same road everyday distracts you from that road. Phone. Radio. Perplexing issue with social or work. Ticking noise in tire. Road signs. Lack of sleep. And so on...

  • @marleyinoc Yes there is nothing like an accident to wake you up but hopefully a lesson learned.

  • What scientific evidence is there which shows llistening to music or to a radio is a distraction whilst driving? Surely if it helps keep people calm and less likely to get road rage it's a good thing? Secondly engine and road noise can be monotonous on a long journey, wherase listening to a radio or to music may actually help people stay alert particularly if one is tired since monotony can send people to sleep. So I think one could make the complete opposite argument.

  • @artberry I agree that tiredness is often a major factor to lack of concentration and maybe you should find other ways to overcome.

  • I think listening to music can keep you from being distracted by the road and to focus.

    But again, matter of opinion.

  • @paul1967uk -- Thanks, Paul. :)

  • @geriatric1927 You are a great person! I cant understand why you dont write a book or something, Have you ever thought about it?

  • When I was driving, I never listened to the radio, but only to audio tapes (back in the day) and CDs I knew very well. That did not mean that it was party time in my car - on the contrary: The well known songs were only a background hum, if you will, and did not distract me, as I knew them to the spot. No surprises, no irritations. And I always kept the volume fairly down, because e.g. hearing the siren of an approaching ambulance and being able to react to it was very important to me.

  • @akaRubyHeart This was filmed on Peters new kodak

  • I don't really have a comment about the video topic. I just wanted to compliment the improved quality of your recent videos. Are you using your new Kodak? It just looks great, Peter!

  • @geriatric1927 True, people could get more sleep and shouldn't drive whan tired. But that's easier said than done. Maybe if car ownership and driving was a lot cheaper people wouldn't need to work themselves to death to run a car? Of course it highlights the problem with statistics since we can't know how many accidents in car entertainment has actually helped prevent. In fact in terms of keeping people awake even cigarette smoking may have saved lives :)
