@Venckman Yes, a fine memory. (I, too, was there.) But what impresses me most, each year Affirmed's 3-Crown reign remains uneclipsed, is not his track records, but rather that unquantifiable courage and determination that he showed us, doing just enough to disappoint other record holders. Spectacular Bid leaps to mind: Between the 'Bid's '79 Delaware 1-1/16 track record (1:41 3/5) and his Meadowlands Cup 1-1/4 (in 2:01 1/5), the 'Bid met Affirmed in the '79 JCGold Cup, failing 4 times to get by.
I was there at Santa Anita that day(19 yrs old). I remember watching him eye to eye in the paddock when they got him ready, what a big beautiful horse he was..
I hope he gets the chance to race at four. I thought I read that Hard Spun will be retired at the end of the year and hope that Curlin and Street Sense don't follow suit.
Cant these people hold off on the stud fees for one year!
Love him. Curlin does look like him, but he is 17 hands!
I think he has the most raw talent of this years crop. Just look what he did while he was still green! Imagine how much better he can get when all of his training sinks in completely!

I am still curious how drugged up he is, with Steve as his trainer.
But I hope I am wrong, because he is a very very good horse!!! But he did beat my boy Street Sense, so I am still a little bitter about that ;-D

No worries. Affirmed sure ran an amazing race here...1:58 3/5ths!
Have a great day.
