A quick look at the up-coming Windows 7. The Beta was released on the 7th of Jan to MSDN & Technet users, and was released to the General Public on the 9th. This is not fake, i have being using W7 for quite a while now, so getting used to it. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS A BETA, NOT RTM. Microsofts servers were actually overloaded because that many peopl wanted to download the Beta. When the downloads are back up, you get W7 from here. http://www.windows7.com

To run windows 7 you will need :

You'll need some technical skills, like knowing how to:

Burn an ISO file to make an install DVD (A good example of what we mean by technical)

Install Windows (of course)

Backup and restore your PC (There's a chance of losing files, so it's a good idea to do a backup of anything you want to save.)

Set up a network

It can be glitchy—so don't use a PC you need every day.

Minimum recommended specs call for:

1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor

1 GB of system memory

16 GB of available disk space

Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme)

DVD-R/W Drive

Internet access (to download the Beta and get updates)

And yes, like anything tech-related, these specs could change.

Some product features of Windows 7, such as the ability to watch and record live TV or navigation through the use of "touch," may require advanced or additional hardware.

You'll need a system recovery disk (and know how to use it).

You're [almost] flying solo: you'll need to troubleshoot problems yourself and call on other Beta testers for their know-how.

It's a two-way thing—Beta testing is about feedback so our developers can fix bugs and hear what appeals to the people who use our products daily. Please tell us what you think.

Watch the calendar. The Beta expires on August 1, 2009. To continue using your PC, please be prepared to reinstall a prior version of Windows or a subsequent release of Windows 7 before the expiration date. (See installation instructions.)

  • Do all of your files disappear when you install?

  • All depends on how you install it. If it's on the same partition as your other OS then yes, unless you upgrade which isn't always available.

  • dude when i extract it and the setup comes when i double click it, it says

    C:\Documents and settings\admin\my documents\setup.exe is not valid win32 application.

  • This vid wasn't and installation tut. However, i reccommend downlaoding and installing Power Iso, mouting to a virtual drive, and trying it that way. Has never failed with me yet :) Let me know how it goes please.

  • it worked thanks man!!!!!!!!!!

  • glad to hear it. Have fun with windows 7 =D

  • A partition is a "slice" from your HD.

Lets say you sliced your HD into 2 bits, C and D, and C had Windows.

If you install a new Windows on C ontop of the old one, everything is erased on C. It's called a "format". Also if you install it on D all is erased, except ofcourse what's on C.

Usually people partition their OS to a different "letter", so upgrading it in the future is painless. Save atleast 80 to 100 GB for your OS btw.

  • ehhhhh. What's a partition on an OS?

  • then all i can think of is that W7 cant read it. Try contactiong M$ and see what they say.

  • my video card is i think good enough for vista, ive been dual booting from WV to W7...
