@jazzbo1974 Greatest? Really? Not only is he one of the all-time greats in IndyCar, but IMHO he may be THE most underrated, along with Tom Sneva.

First of all, didn't know "Mr. I Spank My Kids" was doing Color work for IndyCar races.
Secondly, Gordie had his last great season in CART that year. The following year he would be severely injured in the Michigan 500 and was never the same driver again.
And thirdly, Pete Halsmer is the greatest race car driver ever to graduate from Purdue University. Er, wait.......

Is it possible that footage of this crash was used in an A-team episode?

Halsmer's car is a Gurney Eagle.

Damn straight - about 6 years ago on the same circuit (Curcuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada) F1 was a whopping 7 seconds a lap faster than Champcar - that makes Champcar so slow it's half way to freakin Nascar BWAAAAAHAHAHAA
OWNED!

what a lame wall

Thanks for the live footage of this - I had always seen the highlight-video clip of the wreck. Shame to see Gordy taken out like that...hard to tell if he got cut down, or if he pushed up into the severely lapped #66, though the STP car was below the white line and got a tad loose.

Halsmer's 2nd at Burke Lakefront was in 1983, behind eventual season champion Al Unser Sr.
Armco walls on an indy oval today seem outlandish.

You obviously have no idea about oval racing. In one race at any given oval there's more passing going on than in an entire F1 season.
