what processor do you have on your laptop and how much RAM? The FPS looks damn too low, and I was wondering whether its playable like that?! And what resolution?
-
Can you seriously bare to play at an fps that low? Just turn your settings down a bit, it wont look that much worse.

i have an 8600. i think... lol. i know nothing of computers and graphics cards and whatnot. but i cant have shadows on high or any anti aliasing or it crashes. but for how shitty farcry2 is i dont think its worth it.
When I play this on my Dell XPS M1530 (T7250 2.0 GHz processor) Laptop with 8600M GT, using all your settings (except AA, used 2x instead) I only got somewhere around 20 FPS average. Wheras on my desktop, which uses an E6300 (1.83 GHz) processor and 7900GS Extreme GC, with same settings my average FPS can go up to 40-50. THis feels strange, considering my desktop is bought over a year before my XPS. Is there any explanation to that?

God hates you or even if the model is newer (7900 vs. 8600M) the technology isn't that good.
7900 is a graphics card and 8600M is a mobile graphics card and it's what, like 5-6 time smaller than the 7900? And 7900 was the top of the line in the 7 series, right? It's the same thing with new graphics card. The 8600 desktop model is better than the 9400 desktop model and it's a series higher. And most games work better on desktop PCs because the system isn't that compact.
So your problem is normal.

i just recently bought an xps m1530 (dell) with an nVidia 8600M GT for 1,600 USD thinking I could play Far Cry 2 on max settings smoothly. Now I feel like I've been mugged.

You might play on high, but with a low resolution, and if the other components of the XPS are ultra x-pensive and good (like 4GBRAM 2.5GHz dual core)...
But you can play the game for sure on medium.
:D

well i have 4GB of RAM and 2.4GHz dual core but it's a 32-bit and i heard that 32-bit's use a max of about 3GB RAM and the extra gig is just sitting duck which totally sucks becuz i spent good money on that

Well, you can play for sure on high.
If you have problems lower the resolution (you might have to go to 800x600).
2.4GHz Dual Core is good, i wish i had more processor power. And the RAM are ok for now (2008-2009).
