Orangutans are by nature very solitary animals since food is often scarce in the parts of the world they're native to. It's immensely rare that a young orangutan would ever interact or even meet it's own father in the wild, so this is really only possible in a zoo setting. Because of that, I never thought a male would ever have any familial instinct, or have the slightest idea of how to put up with a baby, but Godek's dad was interacting, playing and even sharing food with his son for several minutes. @blllllllllleugh if you happen to recall anything about it, I'd love to know. I'm sure I saw it online, and I'd desperately like to find it in order to settle a 'discussion' :-) on the 'uniqueness' of human morality.

@wk633 I saw that documentary too. Orangs tend to share half the food that is given to them

I recall a documentary that covered ape cognition that said that sharing was quite common among Orangs. If given different quantities of a food, the Orang with more would share some with the other.
